Removing the training wheels

Spring is here. Geetle is ready to roll – on her bike that is. She still has training wheels on her bike but she was trash talking begging me to take them off.

I have’t had the time to work with her on it on the very few days weather was good enough. But on one decent day, I got out my tools to raise them a bit. She backed down really quickly and confessed that she wasn’t ready for me to take them off.

I moved them up about 1/4 inch. She hesitantly tried out the new ride and agreed that it was fine. It does seem to be forcing her to work on her balance a little bit more.

So, now I’m planning on raising them another 1/4 inch ever week or so until she doesn’t need them at all.

What do you think the odds are that she’ll just magically train herself to ride a bike going this route or am I going to need to spend a few horrible days getting yelled at because I let her fall and scrape her knees?
