Pookie has a joke that he likes to tell to me and BeAGoodMom before bed every now and then.
It’s funny because he things it’s funny and he doesn’t say many things that are really jokes. Geetle tries all the time but the punch lines normally don’t make any sense.
The other day, the 5 of us were at my sister’s new house with my sister, my mom and dad, and my best friend. Around 3pm, we decided to mosey down the street to my parents’ house (which is a full two houses away). It was almost time for Yo Gabba Gabba! which my parents always turn on for Pookie.
So, they are trying to get everybody moving toward the door. My dad asks Pookie, “Do you want to go to Papaw’s house and watch Yo Gabba Gabba?”
Pookie stunned everyone by saying, “No.”
I never thought I’d hear Pookie turn down the Gabba gang.
After a couple second pause, he said, “I want to go to Mamaw’s house,” and then he started cracking up.
Nice burn!
His smile got even bigger when everybody started cracking up. It’s the first time I remember Pookie doing something that seemed so intentionally designed to make everybody laugh. He’s available for autographs if you are looking to get that sort of thing before he turns into a megastar.

Way to go Pookie! Joke telling is a hard concept to get. I remember when I was little, I would attempt various “knock knock” jokes, none of which were funny for any reason besides weirdness. Even my fourth graders have a hard time with this…they like to try it, but always seem to give away the punch line before the part leading up to it is over.
Clever! He’s got all the fixins of a major TV comic
Just make sure it doesn’t go to his head
Rachel, We get great classics out of Geetle like “Knock knock. Who’s there? TV Repairman to fix the TV and then drink some milk and then read a book. Ha ha ha ha ha!” I am looking forward to the jokes that aren’t funny but at least kind of make sense.
DC, with Pookie’s near perfect memory for things like dialog in videos (part of his echolalia I think), I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up doing well with acting, singing or anything that involves constant memorization.
Very cool!
Love it! It’s twice as cool since it was at your dad’s expense, haha.
