Mornings with my son

My new work assignment has me doing the commute thing again. It’s fine but different than most of the last few years. At least I made it through most of the summer working from home.

Each morning I wake up around 5:30am, take a shower, and head downstairs around 6am.

Pookie wakes up just before 6am and waits for the light in his room to tell him it is okay to get out of bed. Than he wanders downstairs a little quieter than he used to be in the morning, sits down on the couch, and starts flipping through his Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.

After I finish eating, we sit on the couch together for a few minutes or just talk as I walk back and forth through the house getting ready to leave. Then we hug or high five and say good-bye for the day.

The rest of the house wakes up literally about five minutes after that to start getting ready for school.

It’s kind of become our few minutes of Pookie and Dad time.

I get home about 10 hours later (one hour commute each way…work through lunch) and Pookie frequently opens the door for me and always comes over to greet me as soon as I walk in before Geetle and Giggles have a chance to pounce me.
