So, Winnie the Hamster #1 died a while back . We went the sitcom route and replaced Miss Winnie with a slightly bigger, similar looking new Miss Winnie, who just happened to be a boy. Shh. Nobody is on to us yet.

We had Winnie the Hamster #2 for about 10 days until (s)he decided not to wake up a couple mornings ago. This hamster did not even make it past her warranty period. I took her back to the pet store for an exchange. I left her there and will try and pick up Winnie #3 tonight after I get a chance to clean the cage again.

While at the pet store I asked if there was anything special I should be doing to keep the hamsters alive and explained the Winnies’ lifestyles. He seemed to think we were doing everything fine and just had some bad luck.

Here’s hoping that Winnie #3 will at least make it through the spring. If it happens once the weather turns nice again, we might seriously consider getting a dog.
