Pookie and I just spent 20 minutes bowling in the basement one day last week. We already had a set of plastic pins and a ball. For Christmas, soon-to-be Uncle M gave us a rug that looks like a bowling alley. We lined up the pins and had a really good time.

Pookie even figured out that your fingers are supposed to go in the little holes on the ball. He lined up the pins each time. And we talked about how you can only knock them down with the ball, not your hands.

As a boy, he loves to see things fall down, crash or get knocked over, So this is really the sport for him. But I think he also learned a few rules and a bit of self control today. I could see the glint in his eyes each time, he really wanted to knock them down with his hands, but he used the ball.

I was proud of him for playing by the rules. That is something we are working on with both kids. Playing games and following some kind of rules. Sometimes we simplify the rules, but there is always some structure to the game. Its really important for kids, we think.
