We are taking a vacation without the kids. One thing we did to prepare was take the time to pre-fill 16 postcards and leave them with Mamaw. Each day that we are gone, she will check the mail box and magically find a postcard from us for each child. Obviously if we waited until we were on the cruise to mail a post card, we would be home before it arrived. So, this way, the kids will get a mail the first day we are gone, and each day after.
We made the post cards by cutting pictures out of a travel brochure and pasting them to the front of a piece of cardstock. On the back, we wrote their names in large plain letters (which they can recognize as their name) and a short message like “Today we swam in the pool. We will be home soon, love Mom and Dad.”

I think doing the fake postcard thing is super. You are right, they never would get the cards if you did it the conventional way….You two are excellent parents and GrdPa D and GrMa M are very nice to help you out so much so that you can have this vacation. Love MOM
