Conquering the bath tub drain

Lisa over at lil duck duck (which by the way the site looks great) has a problem.  Her son is afraid that he is going to get sucked down the drain.  The problem has become so dire that she is enlisting our help to come up with a solution.

I, of course, have a solution.  While I might be a tough, macho man these days, I once was afraid of the bath tub drain myself due to watching Jaws 3 when I was too young to be watching sharks eating beach bums.

While showering or taking a bath, I would stare at the drain the entire time which usually made me forget to wash behind my ears.  To this day, if you look closely, you will be able to see the faint stains from the dirt that built up over the period of several weeks.

One day, I said, “Enough is enough.  It is time to become a tough, macho man.  And that is just what I did.

First, I conquered the drain.  I took one of my toy buckets and placed it upside down over the hole.  I made sure it is full of water.  I didn’t want one of those air pockets to make the bucket weigh nothing and float away.  I stood next to the tub and yelled, “Evil minions of the bathroom plumbing, consider yourselves thwarted by my magic bucket of containment.”

Problem solved.  Nothing was going to go down or up that drain while my magic bucket was on the job.

Note to parents: you will probably find that you kid’s magic will be significantly stronger than your own.  After all, think of all the manual work you have to do to get food on the table.  Your kid is perfectly capable is sitting down and watching the food magically appear.

With the drain fully under control, I set out to attack the vacuum.  It has been just over 20 years and I am happy to report that the vacuum is no longer causing me trouble.  With my daughter holding the cord and sending out her kid magic mojo, the vacuum does it’s job with barely any sign of hungry in its growl.
