Even though I subscribe to a few, I have trouble reading most autism blogs. I can only handle so much debate about what causes autism, how many cases of autism have been diagnosed, and where the research money is going.
My son has autism. He will always have autism. My focus is on watching him grow up as happy, healthy and prepared for the world as possible. Which is exactly my focus for our daughter who does not have autism.
Several months back, I stumbled onto a blog maintained by a bunch of college aged people with Aspergers. It was amazing for me to read the posts and see inside their heads. Unfortunately, the blog had already been abandoned by that point.
Most of the people that write about autism have kids and post stories about their kids, which is why I stay subscribed to those blogs.
But, my new favorite blog that has any relation to autism is written by Nat. If my math is correct, he is 17. He has autism. He doesn’t post everyday, and none of the posts are very long. He doesn’t talk about causes and diagnoses. He just writes about his day and always makes me smile.
Keep writing Nat.

Our neighbor has a little guy that’s autistic. He’s 7 now and I can’t believe his growth and development just since we moved in last summer. I visit with his mom often and he enjoys playing with my kids. I’ve had a few other friends and family that have experienced life with autism and I am constantly amazed at how much there is to help these days and how far their kids are coming. It is truly, truly amazing and inspiring to me. I’ll bet Pookie has given you more than a few proud moments as dad. Not that Geetle hasn’t too, I just know how much it means to watch your kids overcome obstacles and there’s no words for it.

I quite regularly search autism blogs and the ones that I enjoy most and get the most out of are the blogs that just talk about peoples lives and how autism is an integral part of their lives.I sometimes feel guilty not writing more about autism itself but I never seem to have the time.

Yes, it’s good to see Nat enjoying his blog!
If you’re looking for more blogs by autistic writers, a good place to start is Autism Hub — it’s a collection of blogs by autistics, parents, and professionals. The discussions can get quite lively sometimes!
One of the autistic authors on the Hub is Amanda Baggs, who writes the Ballastexistenz blog (the title is German for “ballast-existence” and comes from Nazi descriptions of the disabled, which were frighteningly similar to recent media articles about the cost of autistic people to society). She uses an augmentative communication device and was interviewed on CNN in February. Her essays are always thought-provoking.
