Sick of the same old stories
Post written by: beagooddad
We like to let the kids choose what books we are going to read at story time but we got sick of reading the same handful of stories over and over again.
We were in a tough situation that really had a very simple solution.
We hung a couple small shelves on one of the walls in their room. Between the two shelves we can get about 6-8 books with the cover facing out. They are really more like plate display shelves instead of book shelves.
The kids each get to pick a book off of these shelves for the night time stories and before we leave the room, BeAGoodMom or me add a couple new books to the shelf for the next night.
If you don’t feel like getting out the power tools to put up a shelf, you could use a small basket to hold the books and spread them out each night on the floor or bed.
The kids only mildly protest and have already found several new stories that they enjoy.
We also found one of my old favorites in our book collection. Miss Twiggley’s Tree. The kids don’t like it yet, but maybe it’ll catch on the next time it makes it to our story shelf.

I know you have no shortage of books for your shelf….let me know if there is anyone you just want. Love MOM

love it! We do something similar, we take in about 3 different books and let the kids choose between them. Currently I’ve been asked not to do this anymore as BalletGirl wants to read to her younger sister herself and BabyGirl is very happy with that.

Good idea. Our variety comes from the library. They’ve got to go back after a few weeks (just when we get sick of reading them).
