I don’t remember my parents taking my siblings and I to any fancy restaurants when we were small. I do remember several visits to Chuck E. Cheese’s, though.

My wife and are planning to start having kids in the next year. I hadn’t thought about how challenging going out to eat will be with kids.

Years ago I made the mistake of showing my kids how to blow the paper wrapper off a straw. Now that’s the first thing they do in a restaurant. I can’t get them to stop. Awesome Mom gives me a not-so-awesome glare every time.

I remember as a kid going to the Howard Johnson’s for lunch and ice cream with my family each Sunday after church. What a FIASCO! Looking back, its a wonder we didn’t get thrown out of the place! And mind you, it wasn’t just us kids misbehaving, Mom and Dad usually joined in the fun too!

Holly, just say this three time before you walk into the fancy restaurants with your kids. “I am not afraid of my kids.” Unless you really are. Just kidding.

The more often we take the kids places the more they learn how they are supposed to act there and the easier it gets…not that we can actually afford to eat at the fancy restaurants all that often.

Well you made it and that’s saying something! My best advice on young kids and nice restaurants is don’t take them. LOL We take our kids out to eat often and at a variety of places to help them learn, but the really nice restaurants just aren’t worth it….yet.
