Prostaglandins definitely have multiple uses. My PDD-NOS son Charlie was born with a heart defect. While he was awaiting open heart surgery for three weeks in CICU, he was given Prostaglandins to keep his PDA open (usually closes on it's own after baby is born within a couple of days) in order to allow blood flow into his lungs since his heart wasn't able to do it on it's own. Learn something new everyday!

Good Luck beagooddad and beagoodmom! - Jennifer

When I got tired of waiting for Little P, a hurricane was coming. We'd heard that more babies are often born during hurricanes (rather, low pressure systems - maybe some rain is headed your way?). So, while the storm was brewing, we took a nice, long walk, then came home and had sex. It worked; I was in labor at 5:30AM. I've also heard drinking a beer will help, but I couldn't bring myself to do that too.

People are lazy and use words interchangeably that shouldn't interchanged (or else they don't know that there is a difference) prostaglandin is in semen rather than in sperm. It's synthetic version is also what they use to induce labor - though with two kids (?) already you probably know that, I just like my tidbits.

Nipple stimulation also causes the release of oxytocin. Oxytocin also encourages milk supply, though I don't know if that works before the baby's born.

I think I'm going to have to add "secretion" to my list of gross words.

Back when we were pregnant with the twins, we went to IHOP one night. Later that night we took pictures of her feet and to try and show how swollen they were we set a quarter next to them as a frame of reference. We thought it was pretty funny.

The next morning, her water broke.

I think we should start eating at IHOP every night and taking pictures of her feet. It can't hurt, right?

That is a great doctor and I had heard about sex being something to help induce labor (though I didn't know about this prostaglandin thing.

Also, don't worry too much about the few more weeks thing. We had an appointment with our doctor the one day and he told us it would be at least a week. The next day my wife went into labor!
