Two Options For Feeding Our Baby At Night
Post written by: beagooddad
Giggles is just about 1 month old now. She is slowly changing but one thing that has not changed at all is what happens over night.
Between 10 and 11pm, we top her off with either a 2 or 4 oz bottle depending on what she did between 7 and 8pm. Then she wakes up between 2 and 3am for 3 to 4 oz. Then she wakes up between 5 and 6am for 3 to 4 oz.
Sometimes she just gobbles down the 4oz, burps a couple times then falls right back asleep.
The other times, she gobbles down 2 oz, refuses to burp and then you realize that she has already fallen asleep. That’s when you are hit with a dilemma.
Do you spend the next 30 minutes trying to get her to get through the next two ounces and gain 1 to 2 hours before the next feeding? Or do you just lay her down and plan on coming back after a shorter sleep?
If it is earlier than 3am at this point, I will normally just do the quick feed and head back to bed since I know that I’ll have to be back before 6am (our family’s wake up time) anyway. If it is 3 or later by the time she nods off at the bottle, I will try to find ways to keep her awake.
I’m really hoping that she starts drinking some bigger bottles so that we can push that second feeding safely into the 6 to 8am but unfortunately, she seems perfectly content to keep drinking 3-4 oz at a time for now.

I haven’t checked in for a week or two, but I must say I love, love, love the name Giggles. I hope she suits it for her entire life.
