I’m not a big fan of statistics and surveys.  I just don’t trust the people taking the tests and the people writing the tests.

When dealing with kids, though, you can normally get a pretty good honest answer.  Unfortunately, a lot of time preschoolers are smarter than the adults studying them.

I group of preschoolers were given a test where they were asked to look at a picture of a slightly abstract bus that appeared to be facing both left and right.  The kids were asked which way this bus was driving.  Every kid got the answer correct.  The only problem is that I don’t think the testers expected there to be a correct answer.

Another important lesson that can be learned from this.  Just because preschoolers can not say everything with the level of sophistication of an adult does not mean that they are not able to grasp the fine details of what is going on.  Don’t underestimate kids.
