We make a point of trying to always acknowledge when the kids are doing nice things in the hope that they will decide that doing nice things is a good idea. It seems to work most of the time.
The other day, Geetle was working on an art project by herself. I walked by at one point and she pounced me because she just had to show me what she made. It was a very colorful picture with all of the letters of the alphabet.
I told her nice work and continued on toward the coffee machine. She trailed behind and explained that the picture was for Giggles and she (Geetle) was going to give it to her (Giggles) and teach her the alphabet.
I told her that was a great idea and then shook my head as she walked away. Where do kids come up with stuff like that? Sometimes I think she spends more time thinking about how to be a good sister than I do about being a good parent.
