Two Women Trying To Pick A Father’s Day Present
Post written by: beagooddad
I was riding the elevator at work the other day listening to a couple women about my age trying to figure out what they were going to buy their dad for Father’s Day. One of them was talking about how she was checking the DVD section at Target and couldn’t find anything that seemed worth buying. The other mentioned that she had the same problem. Both of their dads like movies but the daughters couldn’t figure out which ones to buy.
I said, “You should get them a gift subscription to Netflix. We did that for my dad for his birthday and he loves it.”
They both were like “That is a great idea.”
And then the doors opened and we went our separate ways.
Saving Father’s Day. Just one of the many services I provide.
Update: I totally forgot that I was planning on asking you what you are doing for your dads for Father’s Day. Or what are some of the best things that you have bought or had bought for you?

Okay, I’ll say right up front that my husband works for Netflix; he’s in charge of “search” on the Netflix site… With that said, we have bought my dad a Netflix subscription for Father’s Day for the last two years. He loves it. My dad phoned just last week and suggested that repeating last year’s Father’s Day present would be great.
On a separate thread, I love your blog. We have two sons, one who happens to be developmentally disabled and another who is “typically developing”.
We recently obtained an assistance dog for our son from Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). You may want to consider getting one for Pookie; the dogs are wonderfully gentle and smart. Kevin’s dog, Loken, has already improved Kevin’s social connectivity and his independence. The dogs are free for recipients.

Well, not my dad, but for my husband’s first father’s day, I bought him a trip to Vegas. My dad… Usually, I send a card and/or a staple wardrobe item (he wears long underwear 11 months of the year) or a tool (he’s a farmer).

Maria, Feel free to send me a gift anytime…the free trip to Vegas kind…long underwear would drive me crazy.
Tina, I am extremely jealous of your husband’s job…but shouldn’t you be able to get some free subscriptions for your dad out of the deal?

LOL! His gifts aren’t always THAT good. I think this year, I am taking a day off work and we’re having a “date,” which includes golf for both of us and possibly a movie.

Well, *we* get a free Netflix subscription, but unfortunately there are no freebies for family and friends. The ironic thing is that, while we love movies, we’re pretty busy and, on average, only watch one Netflix movie per month.

I’ll take that trip to Vegas. I just renewed my Netflix so you’ll have to rethink that idea. Maybe some pookie art (I have two more walls in my office and several in the apartment that need decorated) And a day with everybody at the BEAGOODPAPAW ranch would be cool. I miss you guys. Love Dad

Ooh the netflix sounds like a good idea, except for the fact that my dad has a membership to the big big main library, and they are constantly getting new movies…plus we have the cable with movie channels…I would still consider doing it, but do they have a really big selection? My dad really likes weird indie movies, so that would be a major plus if they had a good selection.

Rachel, they do have a pretty huge selection of all kinds of perfectly normal and very weird movies. I like a fair amount of indie stuff and they always seem to have plenty for me. Plus, it ships through the mail which saves on gas…unless he was already going to the library, of course…which like all good citizens we should be doing.

My husband got me a Wii for Mother’s day. I’ll probably get him Mario Kart for Wii for Father’s day. Yeah, we’re geeky like that!

Hmm, I think I may have found my Father’s Day Present!
