spaghetti with sauce

We have had an ongoing debate with Geetle about the deliciousness of spaghetti over the last couple years. We are all in agreement that spaghetti noodles are great. Geetle “hates” spaghetti sauce to the extent that she was willing to eat a serving of peas in exchange for putting sauce on the noodles.

We allowed that for quite a while. Then she had two time in a row where she refused to eat her peas and still expected to eat her noodles.

Time out.

So, last night, we had spaghetti. I poured sauce on top of everybody’s and we all started eating. Well, except for Geetle.

She picked at a peach. She drank her milk. She refused her red/yellow sliced peppers.

We ignored her.

About 10 minutes later, she excitedly starts telling me to look at her. When I do, she has a noodle hanging from her mouth. She wanted me to see her eating it.

Then she proceeded to eat a whole bunch of spaghetti, complete with noodles.

I’m pretty sure if you asked her today, she would be willing to eat spaghetti in a box, with a fox, while playing with socks, etc.

I wish I could find the link, but I just read something the other day that said that in general people need to eat something 7 times before they actually taste it enough to know whether they really like it or not. So, if the first time doesn’t work, keep putting it out on the table.

Yep. I keep offering my kids things that they don’t like. Sometimes it is easy to avoid making them though. I still give my kids a little tablespoon of corn. Now they like fried squash and fried okra. I know. It’s fried, but it’s a start. My son will eat the sauteed/pan cooked squash now. I’m working on them.
