I just started working as an RN, and once I get my feet a little bit “wetter” than they are now, I plan on volunteering with Remote Area Medical in an effort to provide health screenings and immunizations to our nation’s under-served communities. I’ll probably actually be “in the field” by late spring or early summer.

For Thanksgiving we (my 12 yo DD and I) are going to our area’s largest soup kitchen to help serve the families there. My family is also donating time and $ to our local Elks club for our Turkey Trot, which is a fundraiser for our Christmas Cheer program. We raise & to buy food and toys for a couple of area needy families that would otherwise go without.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, there will be plenty of opportunities to help out a lot in the community and with larger organizations. I’ll be interested to see if there is more participation with those types of things this year than in the recent past.

I have felt so hopeless/helpless with everything Bush has done. Obama sounds like he will involve the people again. I think what Obama brings to the US is hope. I felt so hopeful watching his acceptance speech. I agree, Obama can not do it on his own…I have no idea what I can do to help either…but now, again, I am willing.

This is a great post. It is time for ALL of us to step up and make a difference. I, too, am trying to figure out where to channel my energy/time/money. It feels great to have a sense of passion and motivation again!
